Sensitive Investigative Unit (SIU) is a specialized DEA program established in 1997 to train, vet, and operate alongside foreign law enforcement partners to target major drug trafficking organizations in countries where U.S. agents face operational restrictions.  These units are based in 12 to 15 countries, including Mexico, Colombia, Thailand, and Afghanistan, and their members undergo a rigorous five-week basic course at the DEA Academy in Quantico, Virginia, covering surveillance, raids, wiretaps, and conspiracy investigations
